Pant Soars to Career-Best Ranking, Bumrah Retains Top Spot in Latest ICC Test Rankings
The latest ICC Test rankings showcase significant movements following a week of compelling performances in both Test and T20I cricket. Rishabh Pant of India and Ben Duckett of England are the notable climbers, achieving new career-high rankings after impactful displays in the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley.
Rishabh Pant has surged to seventh place in the ICC Test batting rankings after recording twin centuries at Headingley. His scores of 134 and 118 made him only the second wicketkeeper in Test history, after Andy Flower of Zimbabwe in 2001, to achieve the feat of scoring hundreds in both innings of a Test match. He also becomes the first Indian wicket-keeper batter to cross the 800 rating points milestone in Test history.
Joe Root maintains his position as the world's No. 1 Test batter, while his fellow Englishman, Harry Brook, remains in second place. India’s captain, Shubman Gill, climbed five places to 20th after scoring a century in the first innings.
India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, continues to lead the ICC Test bowling rankings after taking another five-wicket haul at Headingley, cementing his dominance in red-ball cricket. Ben Stokes of England, after impactful performances with both bat and ball, has risen three places to claim the No. 5 spot in the Test all-rounder rankings, marking his highest ranking in recent months.
The T20I rankings also saw considerable changes following the tri-series in Glasgow, involving the Netherlands, Nepal, and Scotland. Dutch batter Michael Levitt jumped 16 places to 14th after a series of consistent performances. Scotland’s Brandon McMullen also made an impression, climbing 20 spots to be ranked joint 38th.
The ICC rankings continue to be a key indicator of individual performance, with every run and wicket contributing to the ever-changing hierarchy of cricket.
