The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is poised to launch its own T20 league, joining a growing trend among state associations in India. The league is scheduled to debut in the 2025-26 season.
According to Anil Patel, secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, the decision has been made, however, key details are still being worked out. These include identifying a suitable window in the cricketing calendar and finalizing the number of participating teams.
These domestic T20 leagues have gained prominence as valuable platforms for IPL franchises to scout emerging talent. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra already provide opportunities for local players to showcase their skills and potentially advance their careers. Many of these leagues are held in June and July, following the conclusion of the IPL season in May.
