Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone, needing just 97 runs to become the quickest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs. The talented left-hander has the opportunity to surpass Sunil Gavaskar's long-standing 49-year-old record when India takes on England in the second Test at Edgbaston, commencing on July 2.

Jaiswal's consistent performance has been a major positive for India, especially during a period of transition in the Test format. His recent century in the first Test at Headingley demonstrated his exceptional talent, although his efforts weren't enough to prevent India from suffering a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting a challenging target of 371 runs for England, India was taken by surprise as Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root led a composed chase, granting England a 1-0 advantage in the five-match series.
Team India Prepares for 2nd Test vs England
Jaiswal's individual form remains a key source of hope for India as they look to rebound at Edgbaston. In just 20 Tests, he has accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs is held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the milestone in his 23rd Test in 1976. Gavaskar would later become the first cricketer to score 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow on the list, reaching 2,000 runs in their 25th Tests.
With his stylish strokeplay and remarkable composure, Jaiswal now has a golden opportunity to join and even surpass these legends, providing India with a crucial boost in a must-win Test.
