In a public plea, Armenian chess grandmaster Levon Aronian has urged Vladimir Kramnik, a former World Champion, to reconcile amidst a defamation lawsuit. Aronian's letter, shared on social media, expresses deep respect for Kramnik, acknowledging his significant influence. This follows Kramnik's lawsuit against Chessdom, GM David Navara, and others, stemming from disputes over alleged online cheating.

In a public display of emotion, Grandmaster Levon Aronian has penned an open letter to Vladimir Kramnik, urging his former mentor to reconsider his recent actions. This plea for reconciliation comes after Kramnik initiated a defamation lawsuit that has divided the chess community.

Addressing Kramnik with respect, Aronian wrote, "Dear Vladimir Kramnik, forgive me for addressing you publicly." The letter seeks to bridge the gap between the two chess giants following Kramnik's legal action in Geneva. The lawsuit targets Chess.com, Chessdom, and Czech GM David Navara, whom Kramnik accuses of defamation related to accusations of online cheating.

Aronian's letter functions as both a personal homage and a public intervention. He highlights Kramnik’s profound impact on his career, referring to him as one of his "chess parents." He attributes a significant portion of his chess acumen to the former World Champion's influence.

Aronian also recalls Kramnik’s impressive career, including his victories over Garry Kasparov and Peter Leko, as well as the infamous "Toiletgate" controversy against Veselin Topalov. He praised Kramnik’s strength and resilience in overcoming adversity.

However, Aronian doesn't sidestep the issue of Kramnik’s recent behavior. "You are fighting your own demons," he wrote, acknowledging the emotional strain of Kramnik’s campaign against alleged cheating in online chess.

The letter emerges after Kramnik accused Navara of cheating earlier this year. Navara responded with a public letter describing the severe impact of the accusations on his mental health. Kramnik demanded either legal action or silence, ultimately leading to the controversial lawsuit that has been met with criticism from many in the chess world.

Fellow Grandmasters, including Pavel Eljanov, have voiced support for Navara, with Eljanov stating that "David is one of the most honest people in chess."

Aronian’s message concludes with a hopeful call for unity. "We are a family... let us start from a fresh page.” Amidst the division, he emphasized the potential for reconciliation within the chess community.
