Clarke Urges India to Unleash Kuldeep Yadav in Edgbaston Test
As India prepares for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, the aftermath of their series-opening defeat has ignited discussions about potential changes to the playing XI. The possible resting of Jasprit Bumrah for workload management is a key consideration, alongside other adjustments aimed at finding a more potent team composition under the guidance of coach Gautam Gambhir.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has voiced a strong opinion regarding one specific change. According to Clarke, wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav must be included in the upcoming match. Speaking on the Beyond23 Podcast, Clarke described Kuldeep's inclusion as an "absolute no-brainer."
India's bowling attack struggled to assert itself at Headingley. While Bumrah impressed with his control and skill, the supporting bowlers, including Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna, struggled to maintain consistent pressure and secure wickets. Clarke suggests Kuldeep could provide the solution to this issue.
“Bowling-wise, I do not want to single out anyone for blame, but India have to play Kuldeep Yadav. He is a genuine wicket-taker and could have made a big difference in the last Test,” Clarke stated.

Clarke also highlighted a tendency for India to prioritize batting depth, potentially at the expense of a frontline spinner. He emphasized that in English conditions, the focus should be on selecting bowlers capable of taking 20 wickets.
Echoing Clarke's sentiments, former England batter Nick Knight has also advocated for Kuldeep's inclusion. Knight suggested that England’s aggressive batting approach could be challenged by Kuldeep’s variations, especially if the Edgbaston pitch offers any assistance to spin. Knight believes that if Kuldeep finds his rhythm, he could create pivotal moments in the match.
The team announcement for the second Test is keenly anticipated, with the calls for Kuldeep’s inclusion growing more insistent.
